On the 13th of February, the Terminology Coordination Unit received a visit of about 40 students and their professors from the University of Mons. The students participated with great interest in the meeting.

The following items made up the content of the gathering:

– “Many voices, one Europe: Multilingualism in the European Parliament“, with the participation of Kent Johansson from the Multilingualism and External Relations Unit of DG Trad;

– “Cooking recipes for translators“, presented by Alexandros Poulis , Project Manager at DGTrad DAS;

– “Academic Cooperation: Terminology Research for IATE“, with the participation of Violina Stamtcheva from the Terminology Coordination Unit and Wojciech Szmidt, trainee at TermCoord.

On that occasion the IATE Pilot Project was launched.

The IATE Pilot Project is a terminology project involving selected and specialized universities that teach Terminology courses as part of their programmes. In the framework of the project participating students have the opportunity to gain hands-on terminology experience and contribute to the EU IATE database.

In order to carry out the project more efficiently, all students and teachers receive guest accounts for internal IATE for consultation.

The terminology research can be done in any of the EU’s official languages as long as the source is either English or French.

TermCoord rewards the terminological work by providing a certificate for the participating university and the students upon successful completion of the project.
