tss2013The Terminology Summer School (TSS) is a one-week, practice-oriented introductory training on terminology science and management for practitioners, students and scientists.

Cologne will be hosting the conference with the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, the Institute for Information Management, and TermNet from the 15th to the 19th of July.

The Cologne University of Applied Sciences is particularly renowned for offering the only study programme in Germany focusing on terminology and language technology;

Students who do the four-semester course deal with the terminological topics addressed during the summer school. The University curriculum also tackles topics related to language technologies such as translation, localisation and authoring tools as well as good practices on terminology and translation management.

The conference involves around five main topics: Understanding terminology management, Terminology management skills, Terminology strategies for business processes, Standard and legal issues for terminology work and Application scenarios.

The programme includes sessions on subjects, such as: The Introduction to terminology science, principles for terminology work, data categories and modelling of a database ; State of the art terminology tools, terminology workflows and interfaces ; The “Three P’s” in terminology management: Project, Product and Process”, or “Terminology and copyright issues”. The full programme is available on the conference webpage.

Innovative terminology projects would be presented in two sessions and discussed by the participants during the interactive Q&A workshops.

TSS provides an opportunity to network and discuss with peers and colleagues and stay up to date with developments in the terminology field.

The TSS2013 program is developed in cooperation with the ECQA initiative and this makes possible for TSS2013 participants to obtain the ECQA Certificate for Terminology Managers by performing the official ECQA exam for the job role Certified Terminology Manager – Basic or Certified Terminology Manager – Advanced.

If you show an interest in the Summer School, you can register here before the end of June.
