TermNet, the International Network for Terminology, held its 25th General Assembly last week. At this meeting the new board and executive committee members were elected for the 2013-2016 period. The members of the Executive Committee are three world-renowned terminologists: Frieda Steurs as President and Klaus-Dirk Schmitz as Vice President for a second term, and Georgeta Ciobanu as the new second Vice President. Rodolfo Maslias, head of the Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament, was elected as one of the five other board members.

TermNet, founded in 1988 on the initiative of UNESCO, provides an international co-operation forum for organisations in the field of terminology. TermNet runs several terminology-related projects and offers various services, including training, conferences, workshops, seminars and publications. Among other events, it organises a one-week International Terminology Summer School every year. This is a practice-oriented training course for terminology management which also provides the opportunity to obtain the ECQA Certificate for Terminology Managers. The next Terminology Summer School will take place in Vienna, Austria, on 14-18 July 2014. Another regular terminology training course organised by TermNet is the ECQA Certified Terminology Manager course, which is now also offered also at an advanced level and is available in the form of online training. This year five terminologists from the EP have obtained the Basic Terminology Management certificate.
