Yesterday the European Parliament voted to invite Edward Snowden, the former US National Security Agency contractor, to testify as part of its investigation into US surveillance practices. Therefore, we have chosen “wire tapping” as our term of the week. In 2013, news reports in the international media revealed operational details about the global surveillance of foreign nationals, U.S. citizens and even some political leaders such as Angela Merkel, by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and its international partners.
