Video Fix: “Land of Mine” took home most of the prices in the 2016 edition of Luxembourg Film Festival

More than 20,000 visitors had the chance to see the movies in the official competition of Luxembourg’s Film Festival this year. The 6th edition brought to the screens movies from 20 countries.
For more than a week, cinema lovers had the chance to watch more than 20 movies and at the end the jury selected the winners.
Land of Mine, a Danish drama, took home the Grand Prize, but also the Young Audience Prize and the Public Prize.
The action takes place in May 1945 only a few days after the end of the war, when a group of German prisoners of war are brought to Denmark and forced to disarm the two million land mines that had been scattered along the West Coast by the German occupying forces.
The Best Documentary Prize was awarded to Mallory by Helena Třeštíková. The author spent 14 years documenting Mallory’s case, a recovered drug addict faced with the triple-threat challenges of homelessness, unemployment and depression.
The here after took home the Critics Award and My friend Raffi was the winner of the Young Audience Prize.
Luxembourg Film Festival in numbers
This year’s film festival had more than 20,000 visitors, including directors, actors and special guests.
The Magic Mirrors headquarters in Place de la Constitution, a first of its kind for the festival, also had some 2,900 visitors.
The Luxembourg City Film Festival runs over 10 days and it showcases a broad outlook over international contemporary art through a selection of dramas and documentaries. Since becoming a competition in 2012, it has been rewarding the best international cinematographic creations in the categories of fiction (10,000€), documentary (5,000€) and young audience (2,000€).
The 7th edition of the film festival is scheduled to take place on March 2-12, 2017.
