Speakers from the VIII EAFT Terminology Summit. Do you know them all?

On Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th November will take place the VIII EAFT Terminology Summit in Luxembourg organized by the European Association of Terminology (EAFT) in collaboration with TermCoord. This 2016, the EAFT celebrates its 20th anniversary – and it is also the Summit year. TermCoord publishes on a web-page called “Why is Terminology  your Passion?” interviews with prominent terminologists.

This is why we want to introduce you to some of the speakers that will delighted us with their presentations and which has been interviewer by TermCoord. So take your time to discover each one of the following speakers.

Patricia Brenes

Owner of the blog inmyownterms.com. Originally from Costa Rica, she moved to Washington in 2000 to work for the Inter-American Development Bank. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Specialized Translation at the Universitat de Vic in Barcelona. She also has a Terminology Manager certification (ECQA) from TermNet. Her blog collects useful information on theory and practice, as well as infographics, biographies, interviews, tools and much more.

Maria Teresa Cabré

Professor of Terminology and Linguistics at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) since 1994. She is now also a professor emerita at UPF, where she develops teaching and research activities. She founded the University Institute for Applied Linguistics (IULA), which she chaired from 1994 to 2004, as well as Iulaterm, its internal research group. She also founded the Observatori de Neologia in 1989 at the Universitat de Barcelona, which was transferred to UPF in 1994 as a research project. In 2014, she was appointed coordinator of the Pompeu Fabra Professorship. She has been a full member of the Institute for Catalan Studies (Institut d’Estudis Catalans, IEC) since 1989. In June 2014, she was elected President of the Philological Department of the IEC.

 

ciobanuGeorgeta Ciobanu

Professor at the Politehnica University of Timisoara. Her teaching and research interests are: terminology, new media in terminology teaching, languages for special purposes, professional communication, linguistics of languages in contact and translation. Certified ECQA trainer and former terminology trainer, coordinates the CTM-ECQA training Centre within the Centre for Terminology Information and Research in Politehnica. She also acted as a director, collaborator or partner in several international terminology projects. Active as a member and Board member for EAFT, as a Realiter member, as a Terminology Committee Board member for FIT, as a TermNet member and vice-president of the TermNet Executive Committee, Georgeta contributed to terminology development and networking.

 

donatellapulitanoDonatella Pulitano

Master’s degree in translation (1987) and a “Certificat de spécialisation en terminologie” (1987) from the University of Geneva. She has been head of the Central Terminology Service of the Canton of Bern since 1994. Lecturer at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. She teaches continuing education courses in Switzerland and abroad. Member of several terminology-related professional associations: Computerm (since 1989, founding member), Associazione Italiana per la Terminologia (since 1991), Rat für Deutschsprachige Terminologie (since 1994 and chair since 2004), Deutscher Terminologie-Tag e.V. (since 1997 and expert since 2010), European Association for Terminology (since 2009), and Deutsches Institut für Terminologie e.V. (since 2010 and vice chair since 2012).

PhD in linguistics and professor of terminology and translation technology. Head of the Language and Computer Research Group of the Department of Applied Language Studies at KU Leuven Campus Antwerp. In 2000, she led the development of a new research centre that focuses on two aspects: CALL or computer assisted language learning and CAT. The study centre also houses numerous projects on terminology management, language technology, web translation, etc. She is also chair of TC 37, the standards committee for terminology at NEN (Dutch Standards Institute), and is president of TermNet, the international network of terminology. She is visiting professor for terminology studies at the University of Angers (UCO-IPLV) in France, and research fellow in University of the Free State, Bloemfontein (SA).

 

mariateresazanolajpgMaria Teresa Zanola

Full professor of French language and translation at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan, where she is Director of the Linguistic Centre and of the “Osservatorio di terminologie e politiche linguistiche” (Observatory for terminologies and language policies, OTPL). Scientific French lexicon specialist, she has investigated neologisms in French specialized vocabulary from a diachronic point of view. She is also the author of important essays in the field of terminology: from the standardization to the results of multilingual products and to the topics related to language policies. She is President of the Italian Association for Terminology (Associazione Italiana per la terminologia – Ass.I.Term) and General Secretary of REALITER, the Pan-Latin network of terminology.
