Discover what arethe new updates to the EU Glossaries!

Our database of EU Glossaries has been improved this week with updated URLs and new glossaries from institutions and agencies belonging to the European Union. A total of 263 specialised glossaries on topics ranging from the automotive industry to trade unions, nanotechnology or fisheries are available for terminologists, translators, interpreters, linguists and experts from the different fields working outside the EU institutions, as well as for other professionals who strive to use the right terminology, such as journalists, academics and graduate students. With nearly 60,000 visits, the EU Glossaries compilation proves its usefulness and the existing demand for specialised terminology from the different EU institutions.

The new additions to the EU Glossaries are:

as well as other improvements, such as the amendment of broken links and the cleaning of obsolete material.

The EU Glossaries tool is based to a great extent on the ‘Glossaries available on Europa‘ list compiled and maintained by the English Language Department of DGT (European Commission). The glossaries are displayed in a table containing the Glossary name, the updated URL, the DG to which it belongs to, the languages which are available and an additional field (‘Notes‘) with practical information on how to use/access each glossary. There is also a Google Custom Search function (beta) that we are improving at the moment to allow users to search directly within this list of glossaries. You can access the EU Glossaries by clicking on the banner below:

If you do not find your term in any of these glossaries, you can also access our general database of (non-EU) specialised online glossaries, the Glossary Links! This database is constantly updated and contains more than 5,000 glossaries from domains like legal affairs, the environment, medicine, consumer protection, human rights, economy and many others.

We encourage our readers and users to send us any glossaries they find missing and help us continue improving these tools for all terminology professionals & passionates.
