The Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament met on Friday 21st of April, 2017 with the new trainees who will be working in the different units of DGTRAD for the following months.

the IATE Terminology Projects to the new Translation Trainees

This Terminology Briefing session is held every 3 months to inform new trainees about the work of the Terminology Coordination Unit, what terminological resources are available for EP translators and which are the IATE Terminology projects that new trainees will have to contribute to as part of their traineeship.

IMG_20170421_102904The large group of around 70 new  trainees was first welcomed in the Schuman building of the EP in Luxembourg by TermCoord, and first the organisation of terminology work within DG TRAD and the main activities of TermCoord were presented. The session continued with the presentation of the internal and external websites managed by TermCoord, to which the new trainees are always welcome to contribute with posts related to linguistics, translation and terminology (among others) . Then, the different available terminology projects, were presented such as Human Rights, Elections, IT & Social Media or Financial terminology. These projects will be coordinated by TermCoord’s terminology trainees. Finally, an introduction was given to terminology theory, during which the trainees had the chance to refresh some basic terminology concepts and principles, engaging afterwards in a productive and enriching exchange of ideas.

This session is an example of the valuable contribution of trainees to the day-to-day activities of the European Parliament and of all the valuable professional input trainees receive in turn when working for DGTRAD.
