12th Juvenes Translatores Translation Contest

1358

The 12th edition of the Juvenes Translatores Translation Contest has arrived and will take place on November 22, 2018! Registrations have opened for 17-year-old secondary school students. The objective of this competition is to promote language learning and to encourage young people to consider a career in this field. By learning foreign languages, young people will be better equipped for the job market as well as opening up new opportunities in their home country or abroad. Languages are an essential part of intercultural dialogue, European integration and global citizenship, and translation is a powerful tool for developing skills in the source and target languages. as  it can be used in schools to promote a comprehensive approach to language learning.

Would you be interested in participating this year? You have until October 20th to register your secondary school.

Every year, on the day of the competition, more than 3,000 students from all over the European Union participate by translating a one-page text written in one of the 24 official languages of the EU to another of these languages. This year’s theme is the European Year of Cultural Heritage. For each edition, professional translators from the European Commission evaluate all copies and then select one winning translation per EU Member State. The winners are then invited to Brussels in the following spring, together with their teachers and parents, to attend a prize-giving ceremony at Commission headquarters.
