TermCoord workshop: Consulting experts on terminology

photo 1 Yesterday the Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament had the privilege of hosting Rute Costa, the renowned professor and researcher in Terminology, Lexicology and Lexicography. Rute Costa presented her on-going projects at the Portuguese Parliament;

CogniNET, launched in 2009, is an international collaboration aiming to provide experts with the means to achieve conceptualisation as end-users and provides a collaborative platform for experts in knowledge domains.

BDTT-AR, a terminological database for language professionals, a terminological database providing a multilingual source of structured terminology for use by the Portuguese Parliament.

Both are text-based methodologies, but the former has been developed for experts, while the latter has been developed with experts.

Rute CostaProfessor Costa underlined that working with experts guarantees the relation between the linguistic and conceptual dimensions of terminological data. Furthermore, working with experts assures both the quality of the entire process underlying database feeding, and the quality of database content.
