EN	paper	Material in the form of sheets or reels, consisting mainly of randomly distributed natural fibres and/or artificial fibres with or without the addition of size, fillers, pigment, dyes etc.

EL	valve bag	The present invention also discloses a new kind of valve bag that is suitable for cement and concrete by-products packaging, costs less than paper and will not sacrifice productivity. Furthermore, the valve bag may be manufactured in a method that allows the valve to be pulled out into a pour spout, which is ideal for many types of products such as seeds, fertilizer and bulk food products.

EL	cigar band	A paper ring around the head of most cigars. Legend has it that cigar bands were invented by Spanish nobles to keep their gloves from being stained. Cigar bands are often printed with the name of the brand, country of origin, and/or indication that the cigar is hand-rolled. They often have colorful graphics, which have made them a popular collectors' item.

EL	vertical form, fill and seal machine	Vertical form, fill and seal (VFFS) machines are known in the prior art for forming a container, filling the container with foodstuffs or similar items, and sealing the container. These machines are advantageous in that all three steps are performed in rapid succession in substantially the same location.

EL	strapping machine	There are two principle types of strapping machines, manual and automatic, table-top or freestanding machines. Strapping machines are typically designed for use with either plastic or metal (steel) strapping. These machines position, tension and seal strap around a load to bundle or secure the load.

EL	strapping	The present invention relates to equipment for strapping packages, and in particular for strapping packages to a pallet bearing such a package. The sealing station typically has a conveyor that moves the container through the sealing station in an upstream-to-downstream direction.

EL	stand-up bottom	Such packages are generally formed as resealable pouches from a flexible film material or film and have a stand-up bottom surface, tapering sides, and are vacuum sealed. EL	clamshell packaging	A common variation on the blister pack is a so-called "clamshell" packaging. It is essentially the same configuration as a blister pack except that the backing also is made of a thermoformed plastic web. The clamshell may be formed from a single web and folded onto itself, or the cover and backing may be formed from separate webs. In either event, the cover and backing are secured to each other, very frequently by heat sealing or other bonding techniques, so that the product therein may be accessed only with some effort.

EL	susceptor	A "susceptor" is defined as any material which absorbs electromagnetic energy and transforms it to heat. Susceptors have been suggested for applications such as microwave food packing, thin-films, thermosetting adhesives, RF-absorbing polymers, and heat-shrinkable tubing.

EL	crown cap	A well known drink container comprises a glass bottle with a crown cap formed of metal. The cap is pressed over a lip around the opening of the bottle and held in place by being crimped beneath the lip. Whilst very successful, this form of closure has the disadvantage that it requires a tool, e.g. a bottle opener, to prize the cap off the bottle.

EL	twist-off crown cap	The twist-off crown caps are made of a special metal with adhesive varnish and a granulate which, when used in conjunction with a special (threaded) bottle neck ensures a good twist action. The efficiency of the bottle threads guarantees easier opening of returnable bottles. These caps are made on the normal crown cap closure machines but the fastening ring should be adapted to a diameter of 28.4 mm, in order to achieve a closure diameter of 28.6- 28.8 mm.

EL	ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH)	Ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) is a useful polymeric material having good oxygen barrier properties, oil resistance, antistatic properties and mechanical strength, and is widely used for various wrapping and packaging materials such as films, sheets, containers, etc. In many cases, EVOH is used as one layer in a multilayer structure.

EL	container glass	Container glass is a type of glass used for storing various liquid and solid materials such as bottles, jars, drinkware, and bowls. Container glass has a lower magnesium oxide and sodium oxide content than flat glass, and higher silica, calcium oxide, and aluminium oxide content. Its higher content of water insoluble oxides imparts slightly higher chemical durability against water, which is required for storage of beverages and food. Most container glass is soda-lime glass, produced by blowing and pressing techniques, while some laboratory glassware is made from borosilicate glass.
EL	γυαλί συσκευασίας	Το γυαλί είναι αδρανές υλικό, γεγονός το οποίο δεν το αφήνει να αλληλεπιδρά-σει ούτε να αλλοιώσει το ίδιο το περιεχόμενο του προϊόντος. Το γεγονός πως είναι αδιαπέραστο, προσφέρει εξαιρετική αντίσταση στις χημικές ουσίες του περιβάλλοντος, οι οποίες και αποτελούν απειλή για τις βιταμίνες και τη φρεσκάδα των τροφίμων. Επίσης, διατηρεί με τον καλύτερο τρόπο τη γεύση τους συγκριτικά με το πλαστικό, ενώ ιδιαίτερα σημαντικό είναι πως είναι φιλικό προς το περιβάλλον.

EL	υλικό συσκευασίας	Το υλικό συσκευασίας πρέπει να διατηρεί το τρόφιμο και παράλληλα να το προστατεύει από αλλοίωση, εξωτερική μόλυνση και φθορά κατά τη διανομή και αποθήκευση. Επίσης σε άμεση επαφή με το τρόφιμο το υλικό συσκευασίας πρέπει να μην βλάπτει το ίδιο ή το τρόφιμο.
EL	double wall corrugated board	Double wall corrugated board consists of two plies of fluted paper which are glued together by one ply of unfluted paper or cardboard and the exposed outer surfaces of which are each covered with one ply of paper or cardboard.

EL	solid cardboard	Solid cardboard is a very thin kind of cardboard that is made with one side created very smooth. The smooth side can be printed on, and it is easy to glue things onto it. Solid cardboard is used to package items like hair cosmetics, breakfast cereal, and other foods.

Το ολικό πάχος του χαρτονιού κυμαίνεται μεταξύ 0,8 και 2,8 mm, η δε πυκνότητα μεταξύ 556 και 1758 g/m2. Τα κιβώτια από συμπαγή χαρτόνια κοστίζουν δυο με τρεις φορές περισσότερο απ' ότι τα αντίστοιχα κιβώτια από κυματοειδές χαρτόνι και γι' αυτό χρησιμοποιούνται αποκλειστικά για εφαρμογές όπου η επιστροφή και η επαναχρησιμοποίησή τους είναι δυνατή.
EL	vacuum packaging	Vacuum packaging is a form of modified atmosphere packaging. The overall goal of vacuum packaging is to eliminate some or all oxygen that commonly contributes to degradation. Depending on the type of products being wrapped, a combination of oxygen and nitrogen can be within the vacuum package to extend the life of a product.

EL	χαρτί (τύπου) kraft / κραφτ	Το χαρτί τύπου Kraft έχει βάρος 70-300g/m2, το οποίο έχει υποστεί επεξεργασία σε θειικά άλατα, είναι αδρό και παρουσιάζει βελτιωμένη μηχανική αντοχή. Έτσι, χρησιμοποιείται στην κατασκευή σάκων με πολλαπλά φύλλα, για τη χονδρική συσκευασία τροφίμων όπως ζάχαρη, αλάτι, αλεύρι κλπ. Διακρίνεται: α) σε λευκό χαρτί που έχει λευκανθεί (τσάντες, σάκοι και άλλα μέσα συσκευασίας τροφίμων σε μορφή κόκκων ή σκόνης) και β) σε χαρτί χρώματος καστανού-γκρίζου που δεν έχει λευκανθεί (υλικό περιτύλιξης).
EL	stretch film	Stretch film is a plastic film used to secure, bundle, and stabilize products. Stretch film is made from linear low-density polyethylene. When applying the film is to be pulled and stretched around products to obtain tight and secured product loads. Stretch film comes in a variety of widths, thicknesses, and colors.
EL	μεμβράνη περιτύλιξης	Οι μεμβράνες περιτύλιξης έχουν μικρότερο πάχος από τις προσανατολισμένες και επειδή χαρακτηρίζονται για την ικανότητά τους να τεντώνουν μέχρι και 600% χρησιμοποιούνται ευρέως στην περιτύλιξη διαφόρων τροφίμων. Οι μεμβράνες που συνήθως χρησιμοποιούνται στην περιτύλιξη είναι από πολυαιθυλένιο χαμηλής πυκνότητας (LDPE), από γραμμικό χαμηλής πυκνότητας πολυαιθυλένιο (LLDPE), από πολυβινυλοχλωρίδιο (PVC), από πολυπροπυλένιο (PP), από το συμπολυμερές του αιθυλενοξικού βινυλεστέρα (EVA) καθώς και το σελοφάν.

EL	aluminum / aluminium foil	This is pure aluminium which is rolled to thicknesses as 0.006 mm. It offers particular advantages for packaging as it is a complete barrier to light, moisture, grease and gas provides that it does not have any pinholes. It also has excellent dead fold properties, which means that as you fold it it does not have the tendency to spring back. The flexibility is not very good until it is very thin and then it does not have good tensile strength either.

Greaseproof paper is for protective packaging material having a resistance to fat penetration in packaging butter or fatty food with few pores. Greaseproof paper is suitable for lamination and coating with wax or lacquer to improve water resistance. After wax coating, it is used as a wrapping paper of potato chips, dried food, cookies, ice cream and coffee.

It also has good grease resistance and gas barrier properties. Transmission of moisture vapor can be enhanced by waxing, lacquering, or laminating the paper. It can be used as a protective wrapper for all kinds of food stuffs and many purposes where its transparent feature is helpful.

EL	time-temperature indicator (TTI)	A time-temperature indicator is defined as a small instrument, with which a time-and temperature-depending change can be visualized and thus the full or partial temperature history of a product can be reflected. EL	περιτύλιξη	Στην περιτύλιξη τροφίμων χρησιμοποιούνται συνήθως το σελοφάν και οι μεμβράνες πολυπροπυλενίου (PP), πολύαιθυλένιου (PE) και πολυβινυλοχλωριδίου (PVC). Η περιτύλιξη μπορεί να γίνει με το χέρι και με ειδικές συσκευαστικές μηχανές. Στην περίπτωση αυτή η πλαστική μεμβράνη, η οποία είναι σε ρολό, ξετυλίγεται, έρχεται σε επαφή με το προϊόν, κόβεται στο ενδεδειγμένο μέγεθος, και με σειρά διαδοχικών χειρισμών κατά μήκος της γραμμής συσκευασίας αναδιπλώνεται και περιτυλίσσει το προϊόν.
EN	intelligent packaging	Active food contact materials absorb or release substances in order to improve the quality of packaged food or to extend its shelf life. Intelligent food contact materials monitor the condition of packaged food or the surrounding environment, for instance by providing information on the freshness of the food.
EL	έξυπνη συσκευασία	η έξυπνη συσκευασία είναι σχεδιασμένη να ενημερώνει τον καταναλωτή για την κατάσταση του τροφίμου και της συσκευασίας, καθώς και για τις συνθήκες διατήρησης του τροφίμου, μέχρι να φθάσει στον καταναλωτή.
EN	shrink package	Shrink packaging indicates the process in which sheets of transparent plastic film are wrapped around a product to form a solid, weather-resistant packaging layer. Shrink packaging customarily refers to plastic films which have been pre-heated, stretched and cooled prior to use. This causes their initially randomly scattered molecules to align themselves in rigid structures, creating flat sheets of plastic film.
EL	συρρικνωμένη συσκευασία	Στη συρρικνωμένη συσκευασία (shrink package) το προϊόν τοποθετείται σε εύκαμπτες πλαστικές προσανατολισμένες μεμβράνες το οποίο με την εφαρμογή ειδικής διαδικασίας υπό συνθήκες κενού αποκτά το σχήμα του συσκευασμένου προϊόντος
EN	skin packaging	A method of packaging in which a product is placed on a backing plate, typically of card, and a plastic film is heat-sealed over the whole.
EL	επιδερμική συσκευασία	Στην επιδερμική συσκευασία το υλικό συσκευασίας προσκολλάται γύρω από το συσκευασμένο προϊόν, ώστε να σχηματίζει ένα περίβλημα, με αποτέλεσμα να βελτιώνει την εμφάνιση και τη διάρκεια συντήρησης του προϊόντος. Επίσης, πλεονεκτεί έναντι της συρρικνωμένης συσκευασίας στο γεγονός ότι δεν θρυμματίζει ούτε συνθλίβει το προϊόν, αν αυτό είναι εύθρυπτο ή ευπαθές.
EN	Modified atmosphere packaging	Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) is a way of extending the shelf life of fresh food products. The technology subsitutes the atmospheric air inside a package with a protective gas mix. The gas in the package helps ensure that the product will stay fresh for as long as possible.

EL	συσκευασία τροποποιημένης ατμόσφαιρας	Ως συσκευασία τροποποιημένης ατμόσφαιρας (Modified Atmosphere Packaging, MAP) ορίζεται η συσκευασία ευαλλοίωτων τροφίμων σε περιβάλλον στο οποίο έχει περιέλθει αλλαγή σύνθεσης της ατμόσφαιρας με την απομάκρυνση του αέρα από τον περιέκτη και την αντικατάστασή του από αέριο ή μίγμα αερίων
EN	lug cap	Lug caps are made of metal and usually come in a gold color. They are most often used on glass hexagon jars or round jelly type jars. However, the applications for lug cap and container are endless. These caps most often come with a Plastisol liner, which provides an excellent seal.
EL	μεταλλικό πώμα	Τα μεταλλικά πώματα που χρησιμοποιούνται στη συσκευασία παρασκευάζονται κυρίως από αλουμίνιο και προορίζονται για την πωμάτωση οινοπνευματωδών ποτών, αναψυκτικών κ.λπ. Διακρίνονται σε διάφορα είδη ανάλογα με το κύριο προϊόν για το οποίο προορίζονται. Παράγονται επίσης και πώματα (τύπου Crown) από σίδηρο τα οποία χρησιμοποιούνται σχεδόν αποκλειστικά σε ορισμένους τύπους ποτών (π.χ. μπύρα)
EN	boil-in-bag	A hermetically sealed pouch containing processed food which can be placed in boiling water. The pouch will remain intact during sustained boiling.
EL	συσκευασία boil-in-bag	Η συσκευασία boil-in-bag είναι διαφανής, ελαφριά, με χαμηλό κόστος και παρότι δεν είναι αεροστεγής έχει ικανοποιητική στεγανότητα στους υδρατμούς, τα αέρια και τις λιπαρές ουσίες. Χαρακτηρίζεται για το γεγονός ότι εντός της τοποθετούνται τρόφιμα τα οποία από το ψυγείο ή τη κατάψυξη τοποθετούνται για βράσιμο μαζί με τη συσκευασία.
EN	retort pouches	A retort pouch is commonly defined as a flexible pouch for low-acid foods that are thermally processed in a pressure vessel, often called a “retort.” The pouch is made of layered polyester, aluminum foil, and polypropylene. Commercial sterilization occurs at temperatures greater than 212 °F, typically 240 to 250 °F. The retort packaging is shelf stable at room temperature.
EL	σακίδια αποστείρωσης	Τα σακίδια αποστείρωσης (retort pouches) αποτελούν την εναλλακτική συσκευασία των κονσερβοποιημένων τροφίμων σε μεταλλικούς και γυάλινους περιέκτες. Κατασκευάζονται από πολύφυλλες μεμβράνες οι οποίες θα πρέπει να έχουν μεγάλη μηχανική αντοχή προκειμένου να αντέξουν τη διαδικασία της αποστείρωσης του προϊόντος, να παρέχουν πλήρη στεγανότητα σε υδρατμούς και αέρια και να εξασφαλίζουν το ερμητικό κλείσιμο του περιέκτη.

This is particularly important in the area of fresh and extended shelf-life foods

EN	Aerosol	An aerosol is is defined as a self-contained sprayable product in which the expelling force is supplied by liquedfied or compressed gaes so that the product is self-dispensing.
EL	αεροζόλ	Ως αεροζόλ χαρακτηρίζεται κάθε σύστημα το οποίο αποτελείται από περιέκτη που περιέχει προωθητικό υγροποιημένο ή διαλυμένο αέριο υπό πίεση καθώς και βαλβίδα που επιτρέπει στο συσκευασμένο να εκκενωθεί με τη μορφή σταγόνων ή αφρού ή ακόμη ως πάστα, υγρό ή σκόνη.

EL	δοχείο με ορθές γωνίες από αναδίπλωση	Είναι δοχεία δύο τεμαχίων σχήματος ορθογωνίου παραλληλεπιπέδου στο οποίο οι τέσσερις καταφόρυφες γωνίες σχηματίζονται με απλή ραφή των μεταλλικών φύλλων. Χρησιμοποιούνται στη συσκευασία μπισκότων και άλλων τροφίμων που έχουν ανάγκη περιέκτη με ορθές γωνίες.
EN	Lever lid	This closure comprises two parts: a ring, whre the major diameter embodies a seaming panel for mechanical double seaming to the can flange, and the minor diameter is folded to provid a tight push fit for the removable lid and a removable lid, which fits tightly into the ring, and where the outsid diamter extends over the ring to provid a flange for use of a lever-opening tool.
EL	δοχείο με κάψουλα	Είναι κυλινδρικά δοχεία τεσσάρων τεμαχίων που χρημοποιούνται στη συσκευασία μελιού, καφέ, παιδικών τροφών σε σκόνες και άλλα τρόφιμα.
EN	Slip lid	The slip lid tin: the body is usually seamless, and closed by a separate lid which fits over the mouth of the body.
EL	δοχείο με αποσπώμενο πώμα	Είναι δοχεία τριών τεμαχίων στα οποία το καπάκι μπορεί εύκολα να αφαιρεθεί και να επανατοποθετηθεί. Χρησιμοποιούνται στη συσκευασία γλυκών και μπισκότων. Παρέχουν στα τρόφιμα κυρίως μηχανική προστασία και προστασία από το φως, ενώ με διάφορους μηχανισμούς, όπως αυτοκόλλητες ταινίες κ.α., προστατεύουν το προϊόν από την υγρασία και το οξυγόνο.
EN	block pallet	A pallet type featuring blocks between the pallet decks or beneath the top deck
EL	τάκος	τα τετράγωνα στηρίγματα ανάμεσα στο πάνω και στο κάτω μέρος της παλέτας. Στον τάκο της παλέτας αναγράφονται οι πληροφορίες και η πιστοποίσηση της παλέτας.
