On May 24th, Rodolfo Maslias, TermCoord’s Head of Unit, gave a presentation at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for the “4ème rencontre des traductologues grecs”, organised by the French Department.

He explained the important role of terminology for the European Parliament as well as its organisation in the language units. He introduced the main activities of TermCoord and the tools the unit provides to ease, on a daily basis, the translators’ work (DocHound, Glossary Links, TermFolders, IATE, etc…).

TermCoord’s Head of Unit then showed how the terminology cooperation between the different institutions worked around the common database IATE. More information was also delivered on the future implementation of the interinstitutional terminology portal developed by TermCoord. Special attention was given to the creation of wikis for each language community in order to facilitate communication between translators.

He also talked about how the Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament develops and promotes its cooperation with different universities through series of projects. TermCoord not only actively participates in a Masters’ programme at the University of Luxembourg, but also works closely with other academic institutions on terminology projects aimed at enhancing IATE entries.

The various traineeships and study visits available in TermCoord have been tackled in details in the presentation that you can access in English or in Greek.
