Every week TermCoord selects a new term from the European Terminology Databank “IATE”, which is related to relevant political and international issues occurring during the week.
This week we selected the term ‘flexicurity‘, a key aspect of the labour overhaul outlined by the Italian government in order to usher young Italians into the job market and help companies and unemployed people in this period of crisis (read the article from the Wall Street Journal).
Definition: flexicurity is a policy strategy to enhance, at the same time and in a deliberate way, the flexibility of labour markets, work organisations and labour relations on the one hand, and security – employment security and income security – on the other. The term was first coined by the social democratic Prime Minister of Denmark Poul Nyrup Rasmussen in the 1990s.
In IATE, all the 23 EU languages are present for this entry.
