The IATE term of the week is “infringement of intellectual property rights”

This week we have selected the term “infringement of intellectual property rights” with the reference to the the dismissal of Acta, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, by the European parliament (The Guardian).

Definition: A violation of the legal property rights over creations of the mind, both artistic and commercial, and the corresponding fields of law.

Intellectual property rights: Under intellectual property law, owners  are granted certain exclusive rights to a variety of intangible assets, such as musical, literary, and artistic works; ideas, discoveries and inventions; and words, phrases, symbols, and designs.
