Every week TermCoord selects a new term from the European Terminology Databank “IATE”, which is related to relevant political and international issues occurring during the week.
Today we selected the term ‘Schengen Borders Code’, following the French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s threat to pull his country out of the Schengen area during a campaign rally for the 2012 presidential elections in France before thousands of supporters last Sunday (read the article from the Wall Street Journal).
Definition: regulation that modifies existing legislation on border checks carried out on people. It is intended to improve the legislative part of the integrated border management policy by setting out the rules on crossing external borders and on reintroducing checks at internal borders.
You can find more information about the ‘Schengen Borders Code’ on the Summaries of EU legislation website.
In IATE, all the 23 EU languages are present for this entry.
