Getting to terms with legal terminology: Seminar on legal terminology not to be missed

The Terminology Coordination Unit (DG TRAD) is proud to host a seminar on legal terminology starting at 9.00 on Friday the 29th of November 2013, in the Schuman Hemicycle, in the premises of the European Parliament in Luxembourg. Colin Robertson and József Villányi, former lawyer-linguists in EU institutions, boasting broad experience in the field of legal translation, will focus on the difficulties of legal translation and shed light on matters relevant to legal terminology:

Colin Robertson: A lawyer-linguist’s view of EU legislative acts in English:

Colin Robertson worked as senior legal officer and legal translator, then as lawyer-linguist at the Council. He has a wealth of experience in the domain of EU law and EU legal language and has carried out a theoretical study of EU law and language, organised conferences on legal language and semiotics, written articles on these topics and worked on a book project on multilingual law.

József Villányi: Les difficultés de la traduction de la terminologie juridique de l’UE:

József Villányi is a former legal advisor at the Hungarian Ministry of Justice, lawyer-linguist, former référendaire at the Court of Justice, and current head of the Hungarian Translation Unit at the EP. He also boasts wide experience in the field of law and legal translation, with many articles published and presentations given about various topics related to law, particularly EU law.
