November 29, 2013 8:54 am

red_shoes_620x413November 25th was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Every year, millions of women and girls worldwide suffer violence, be it domestic violence, rape, female genital mutilation/cutting, dowry-related killing, trafficking, sexual violence in conflict-related situations, or other manifestations of abuse.

For this reason we have chosen ‘femicide’ as our IATE Term of the Week. Find out more about this topic with this helpful article by the UN News Centre.

We invite you to suggest the equivalent terms in the missing EU languages, or alternatives to the existing term in your language if you consider the proposed term inaccurate. Provide your answer with a reliable reference and an accurate definition and/or context if possible.

Contribute to IATE!

A terminologist for the language in question will revise your answer and decide whether to validate them. Given the implications of the process, a delay is to be expected.
