IATE Term of the Week: Asset freeze

February 21, 2014 4:11 pm

In light of the deteriorating situation in Ukraine and deaths and injuries of many protesters and police, the EU has decided as a matter of urgency to introduce targeted sanctions including asset freeze and visa ban against those responsible for human rights violations, violence and use of excessive force.

For this reason we have chosen “asset freeze” as our Term of the Week. Find out more about this topic with the Council conclusions on Ukraine and the Remarks by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton following the extraordinary Foreign Affairs Council on Ukraine.

We invite you to suggest the equivalent terms in the missing EU languages, or alternatives to the existing term in your language if you consider the proposed term inaccurate. Provide your answer with a reliable reference and an accurate definition and/or context if possible.

A terminologist for the language in question will revise your answer and decide whether to validate them. Given the implications of the process, a delay is to be expected.
