Student visit – University of Luxembourg

2291

On March 11, TermCoord welcomed students from the University of Luxembourg. It’s the second time that a group from the university has visited TermCoord. This year, a professor and 15 students took part; those who are enrolled in the optional module, “Multilingual communication and terminology in the EU” as part of the MA in “Learning and Communication in Multilingual and Multicultural Contexts”. The group represented a wide mix of nationalities, including Luxembourgish, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Canadian, Romanian, Greek and German.

The programme started with three presentations: the first was about Multilingualism in the European Parliament; the second was an interesting overview of the tools used by translators at the EP and the third was on terminology features of the new CAT tools being rolled out in DG TRAD.

Then, the students had the opportunity to visit TermCoord’s offices and meet staff and trainees, as most of them have expressed interest in paying us a study visit or applying for a traineeship. We informed them about terminology projects and they were shown the interinstitutional terminology portal, EurTerm, and our external website. As part of the “Multilingual communication and terminology in the EU”, an IATE coordinator will also teach them how to use IATE.

The visit ended with a chance to takes pictures in the Hemicycle, where the European Parliament met in its earliest days.
