Giro_d'Italia_2008Here at TermCoord we always make an effort to find new interesting terminology. Several sports, in particular, seem to have developed their own terms, and today we investigate how to speak like a cyclist. Watch the video below to get up to speed on cycling terminology!

Grand Tour, according to a cyclist, refers to “a three week long stage race of which there are only three in the cycling calendar.” These are Tour de France (starting on July 5), Giro d’Italia (May 9 – June 1) and La Vuelta a España (starting on August 23). In this case, we will focus on the Italian cycling tour.

The route this year pays tribute to the tragic death of the famous Italian cyclist Marco Pantani. In honour of him, the Giro will stretch across a total distance of 169km, visiting several of Pantani’s favourite spots.
