On May 17 the European Parliament opened up its doors in Brussels and offered the opportunity for visitors to participate in a debate with the Members of Parliament about European elections. They could also visit the Chamber of the Parliament and meet the political groups and the directorate-generals at their stands to learn about their work and have discussions with them.

The Directorate-General for Translation (DG TRAD) organised an accompanying event, a conference for translation students about the profile of the translator at the European Parliament. The students were welcomed by the Director of Translation, who explained the various aspects of translators’ work, as well as traineeship possibilities and recruitment. TermCoord also participated in this event, where they presented several publications about EP terminology work and IATE, the EU’s terminology database. A staff member gave a presentation about the terminology work carried out within DG TRAD and more specifically about the profile of translators and terminologists.

If you missed out this time, you can participate in similar events next year around the same dates.
