Linguee launched a completely redesigned version last Monday, February 9, 2015. The new release features a more responsive interface that helps users to find their translations faster than ever. A new groundbreaking autocompletion and autocorrection technology is capable of showing dictionary results without the user having to type a full word. In brief, Linguee doesn’t just show the word the translator is looking for, but also the equivalent term in the selected target language, while typing!

Linguee can be used both as a dictionary and as a concordance, by enabling translators to find linguistic matches on the subsegment level (phrase, compound, or word). In the top section, the dictionary entries are arranged in a clear, easy-to-read layout, together with example sentences that contain the search word or phrase as an exact or similar match below. In general, it is possible to search for several words at once, e.g. “in his role as” instead of just entering “role.” This way, the translator will be able to find more examples of a contextual translation in the huge corpus provided.

Linguee is a multilingual online dictionary based on a large corpus of web-based translated materials from live online sources. It is available in more than 200 language combinations and its search engine offers access to over one billion translated texts. The data is displayed in-context together with links to the originating sites.

The majority of the example sentences comes from the bilingual web, particularly from professionally translated websites of companies, organizations, and universities. Other valuable sources include patent specifications and EU documents provided by EurLex.
