World Consumer Rights Day

2507

Are you aware of your consumer rights? March 15th is celebrated as the international “Consumer Rights Day”, that’s why we decided to make “World Consumer Rights Day” our IATE term of the week.

World Consumer Rights Day

This day is meant to raise awareness of the basic rights of consumers and commemorates the introduction of the term “consumer rights” by John F. Kennedy in 1962. Thanks to him, nowadays consumers can receive both the best quality products and services as well as are able to choose from a variety of products from all around the world. If you decide to buy a product, the law will protect you from any unfair activities carried out by the trader.

Inalienable consumer rights

According to law, as a consumer you have some basic rights, for example: safety, information, choice, being heard, redress as well as consumer education. It is not as complicated as it may seem, even if it sounds a little bit confusing. In a nutshell, as a consumer you have the right to get a receipt, which provides you with a warranty. It is simply a guarantee that you purchased a product without failure and if it occurs that you have bought a defective product, the seller will be obliged to refund, replace or repair that product free of charge. Moreover, you should always sign the contract with clear conditions, which means that a salesperson gives you information about the product and its functions or will provide you with a contact to a helpdesk. The other great news concerns online shopping. Now, you don’t need to be sure that a product meets your requirements at the moment of placing your order as you could always return unsuitable products within 14 days without giving any explanation.

This year the WCRD will be focused on healthy diet and resolving the problem of obesity in the world, which is one of the biggest “killers” in today’s society. Let’s choose some eco-products and healthy options instead of frozen tasteless products that don’t contain vitamins and minerals.
