Two-party system

1450

A two-party system is a political system where two major parties dominate elections. They are more or less equal in strength and third parties can hardly obtain any seats in the legislature.

Although this is the historical and hegemonic system in many countries, in the last two years we heard this term many times on the news by referring to the end of this system and the rise of the support to third parties. This is the case of Spain in the last European Elections or the victory of Syriza in the last Greek elections.
