2436

Media from all over the world have echoed the news this week: Former Portuguese Prime Minister António Guterres was sworn in Monday as Secretary-General of the United Nations, becoming the ninth U.N. chief in the body’s 71-year history.

Sworn in has been probably one of the most repeated term these days. Do you know what it means? We would like to use this occasion to have a closer look at it!
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, to swear in means: to make a formal promise to be honest or loyal, either in a law court or when starting a new official job.
