Video fix: Does grammar matter?

You would assume that when you first learn a language you would have to learn its grammar to understand and speak it properly. But this isn’t always the case when you are speaking since there are a lot of grammatical rules that are only really used when writing. When you are having a conversation – grammar usually goes out of the window, just as long as you are understood.
Or this is the argument of Professor Andreea S. Calude who exposes the difference between linguistic prescriptivists and descriptivists – those who could be considered ‘grammar nazis’ and perfectionists and those who evolve their use of grammar. Both are very different approaches and lead us to question – does grammar even matter?
