How healthy is terminology in a multilingual European context? The situation of multilingualism characterizes the European institutions and exerts a significant influence on their operation and has at the same time unique characters.

We have not been think that within the institutions officials to express themselves in their mother-tongue: article 6 of regulation 1/58 provides that the institutions may decide in its rules of procedure which are the working languages. In fact their language does not always coincide with a perfect plurilinguism.

Lo Stato di saluteIn 1999 the EU translation services have engaged in a task rather ambitious: “interactive terminology for Europe (IATE). The aim of the project was to create a single terminology database for all EU institutions and agencies, in which bring together all the existing terminology assets. IATE, fully interactive, web-based, would have allowed the EU language staff to participate in creating and maintaining the terminological database. “The European union is much more than an economic maneuver. The Europe which today represents hope, a haven of stability for which we should be proud”.
