Learning for love: dating in a foreign language

valentine-day-datingOn today’s Valentine’s Day we would like to bring together two interesting articles: one by The Telegraph, and another by The Guardian. As said in the first one, linguists who study business communication know that language is power, and that native speakers have an edge in international transactions. The same is true in romance. This is why dating someone in a foreign language can be an amazing language and cultural exchange, but it can also be tricky.

On the other hand, even if there are many roadblocks to avoid, trying to learn your partner’s native language can bring bilingual couples closer, according to Anne Merritt.

It doesn’t matter what you celebrate: Saint Valentin, Valentinstag, San Valentino, Dia dos Namorados or hjartans dag, here you will find some guidelines on how to maintain a stable relationship without the comfort of your mother tongue, but with the benefit of improvement and self-enrichment.
