Video Fix: English expressions!

1547

This week’s Video Fix is dedicated to English learners: we have decided to focus on some particular idiomatic expressions whose meaning is not immediately guessed. In fact, an idiomatic expression is a type of informal English that has a meaning that’s different from the meaning of the words contained in the expression itself.

VIDEO FIX_2

In this video, the staff of Europe Language Jobs is interviewing a group of foreign people, asking them to guess expressions or at least to try their best to find out the right meaning.
If you are an English learner too, you might find them very interesting!
Challenge your classmates to guess the meanings hidden in these idiomatic expressions… you might fly by the seat of your pants! But remember that kicking the bucket doesn’t have anything to do with playing basketball…

English expressions used in the video:

  • Kick the bucket
  • Fly by the seat of your pants
  • Beat around the bush
  • To have popped (his/her) clogs
  • Give someone the cold shoulder
  • Let your hair down
