Video Fix: Why is the ‘x’ unknown?

In English, the letter x has become synonymous with the unknown, whether it be X-rays, or X marks the spot, and the same applies when it comes to algebra, where we are encouraged to solve x. But why has this letter become associated with all things mysterious? In this fascinating talk below, Terry Moore explains why.
