Termcoord European Election Countdown: Four Freedoms

May 25, 2019 4:46 pm

One of the biggest achievements of the European Union are the four fundamental freedoms of the internal market. The four freedoms include free movement of goods, which means no custom duties and quantitative restrictions within EU borders. This gives the costumers more choices, guaranteed quality standards, and lower prices.

Free movement of capital and services are two more of the four freedoms. EU citizens also enjoy the right to free movement of workers. 50 million EU citizens have already chosen to live and work in another EU member state. They work under the same conditions and earn as much as their colleagues from the respective country. To make it easier for workers to find a position in other EU countries, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, the EU established a network, called EURES. The EU also worked to improve the social security coordination and the recognition of professional qualifications between the member states. Today, the citizens of Latvia, Malta, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic can cast their votes for the EU election. Tomorrow, the remaining 21 EU countries hold the European elections.

So, do not forget to vote! Why does your vote matter? Find out here.
