Video-Fix: Language Is Our Legacy

1057

We want to show you David Peterson’s TED Talk in this week’s Video-Fix. He is a language creator, writer and artist who has developed many different conlangs, constructed languages, for television and film. He has for instance created two languages, High Valyrian and Dothraki, for the popular TV-series Game of Thrones.

In his TED Talk, he passionately shows that language is more than just a tool for communication. The talk discusses the study of language, how preserving and inventing new languages can help us understand our shared humanity. He explains, “Language is not merely a tool. It is our legacy; it’s our way of conveying what it means to be human. (…) And losing even one language makes that picture a lot less clear”.
