On January 21st and 22nd, Business Bridge Europe held the 12th European Space Conference, a conference focusing on everything around European space policy, missions and programmes. At the conference, experts, invited guests and speakers participated in constructive debates and networking opportunities. The participants of the conference included European institutional decision-makers, CEOs and scientific partners from the public, all representing stakeholders from the space sector and beyond. Our Video-Fix today is therefore a small summary video from the event. In the video, you see a few interesting missions and hear from a couple of the speakers at the conference talking about the new budget for the EU Space Programme.
In the budget, the European Commission proposed to allocate €16 billion to the space industry over the period 2021-2027. This would be a huge milestone for the European space industry, as it will help the industry both innovate and maintain state of the art ground infrastructure and satellites. These funds would be split over three separate entities and programmes. €9.7 billion would go to the EU’s global and regional satellite navigation systems Galileo and EGNOS, €5.8 billion for EU’s earth observation programme Copernicus and €500 million for Space and Situational Awareness (SSA) and GOVSATCOM.
During the conference, two special addresses were also held. Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager and European Commissioner of Internal Market Thierry Breton addressed the opportunities of the EU Space Programme and the legislation behind the budget for the programme respectively.
