Words/Machines 2021

‘Language, humans, machines… How are they interconnected? Are machines able to understand a natural language? To understand jokes and puns? Can machines translate them? What are their limits?’

Language professionals and computer scientists will discuss these issues during a workshop organised by the HCTI lab (Héritages et Constructions dans le Texte et l’Image) of the University of Western Brittany (OBO) in Brest. The event with online access will take place on 5 March 2021.  The invited speakers are Tristan Miller from the Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (OFAI) in Vienna, Fabio Regattin from the University of Udine and Pavel Braslavsky from Ural Federal University.

The HCTI has issued a call for submissions of papers on various topics regarding humour/pun translation open until 7 February 2021. All the necessary guidelines and additional information are available here.
