On May 17, the Terminology Coordination Unit (TermCoord) of the Directorate General for Translation of the European Parliament held a virtual visit for the Section of Studies in Modern Languages for Interpreters and Translators (SSLMIT) of the University of Trieste. You can find the recordings of the presentation in Italian below this article.
The visit was organised in collaboration with Professor Jose Francisco Medina Monteiro and attended by the students of the Postgraduate course in Specialised Translation, who were given an overview of TermCoord’s activities.
Rodolfo Maslias, head of the Terminology Coordination Unit, and his colleagues Carmen Staiano and Maria Bruno gave a presentation on the different tasks and resources of TermCoord. Among other things, the presentation focused on:
- the tools made available through our website (GlossaryLinks, DocHound, TermFolders, IATE downloads and others)
- TermCoord’s internal and external communication activities (our website, social media and EurTerm)
- a live demo of IATE
- traineeship opportunities
- terminology projects with universities, in particular Terminology without Borders
Terminology without Borders is a project that we carry out in cooperation with universities and for which we created the website YourTerm.org. It entails the creation of multilingual glossaries in 9 thematic areas: medicine, culture, environment, law, technology, feminism, education, food and maritime and fisheries.
At the end of the meeting, a cooperation scheme in the first semester of the next academic year was determined. Under this scheme, several groups of transfer students will complete terminology projects on various topics. Through this cooperation with TermCoord, the students will gain hands-on experience on terminology work.
