Nowadays universities have a tendency to internationalise their curriculum. The need to internationalise universities seems to be caused by economic, environmental and geographic factors. The objectives of internationalisation have inevitably changed.
Internationalisation is a term that might be interpreted in different contexts. This paper seeks to investigate internationalisation in the context of language practices and policies in universities. The definition of the term will be discussed in the paper, as well as rationales for internationalisation and three central paradoxes of internationalisation.
