TermCoord is proud to announce that the European Parliament’s Citizens’ Language policy, for which the Translation Directorate of the European Parliament is responsible, has been nominated for the European Ombudsman Award for Good Administration! Candidates for this award can be any EU project or team in any EU institution, agency or body. The criteria for selection are based on the core principles of good public administration. The Citizens’ Language policy was nominated under the category Excellence in citizen-oriented delivery.

The aim of the Citizens’ Language policy is to ensure that EU parliamentarians and officials communicate clearly between each other and citizens, and this in all 24 EU languages. The policy consists of specific projects in which language professionals tailor translated texts to the intended audience’s culture or needs, make better use of subtitles in 24 languages in videos, and create podcasts based on existing written content for blind or partially sighted people.
