On the 30th September 2016, ALTI, the Luxembourgish Association of Translators and Interpreters organised a conference for the Day of Translation. The European Parliament was represented by three speakers: The Director General of Translation, Valter Mavric who gave a speech on multilingualism and translation in the European Parliament, Nikos Sarantakos from the Greek Translation Unit who gave a very entertaining presentation under the title “memories and words of a translator, and Rodolfo Maslias presenting the terminology coordination in the European parliament, the cooperation among the EU Institutions in this field and the resources made accessible to the translators and interpreters via the public website termcoord.eu. Presentations were given among others by experts as Mr Franz Lemaître, head of the French unit of interpretation of the Commission EU in Brussels, Mr Alexander Ecker, lexicographer, on the Lëtzebuerger Online Dictionary and Ms. Natascha Dalügge-Momme, President of the European Federation of Translators.
The National Literature Centre in Mersch was the chosen scenario to hold the 1st Luxembourgish Translation and Interpreting Meeting. Organised by ALTI (the national Association of Translators and Interpreters), this unique event was the icing on the cake for a double celebration of the International Translation Day and 5th anniversary of the establishment of this association.

About ALTI
Behind the organisation of this Conference was ALTI, Luxembourgish Translation and Interpreting Association a nonprofit professional association founded in 2011 by fifteen professional translators willing to address the lack of professional association in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, multilingual country and largest consumer of translation services. Today, ALTI has 75 members translators and interpreters, mostly independent and sworn before the Superior Court of Justice in Luxembourg, covering 24 languages working.
