How to use the tool “TERMER”
We invite you to use the new IATE term lookup service on termcoord.eu
What does TERMER do?
It gives users access to translations or meanings of words directly from the webpage. TERMER can automatically connect glossaries to online content to save time and to increase the lookup relevance with sources tailored to the content. The IATE demonstration on Termcoord is limited, and shows only the English to French entries, one of the more than 600 available language pairs.
NEW! Now you can also use TERMER in your own PDF documents thanks to the “PDF viewer” feature.
Below, we show you how to make it work in the two possible ways.
How does TERMER work?

…and follow the instructions on the page to learn how to load a document and run TERMER. The page that will load when you click on “PDF Viewer” looks like this:
Terms with a French IATE equivalent available in the selected domain are indicated with an underline in the text. The approach simplifies the use of IATE in the following three ways:
- The IATE search is submitted from the text
- No need to type in the search term
- The search will return at least one result
If the searched terms contain definitions in IATE, these are also shown in addition to their correspondence in French. By keeping the cursor on the book icon next to the term, the domain of the corresponding term is shown in a small box.
Please note that the current functionality is limited and provided only to demonstrate the lookup service. The language combination English-French is just one of the 600 available language pairs from IATE.
The functionality is used and supported by the Mobile Age project, co funded under H2020, (grant agreement No 693319). Mobile Age project is carried out by 10 European partners and coordinated by Lancaster University. The project focuses on open government data, mobile technology, and the provision of public services in relation to Europe’s elderly population.
