UNINT University (Rome) for IATE

Short presentation of the project

The aim of this project was to give students the opportunity to work with terminology within their “Terminology research” course and at the same time contribute to the IATE database.

This project was part of students’ final examination and this motivated them to work at their best, with the awareness that they could also potentially contribute to the IATE terminology database. It was the most appropriate way to make them feel responsible and part of a real working experience.

The list of terms was initially provided by Termcoord in the sector of “Gender and human rights”, “Gender and media”, and “Meat and meat processing”.

Students involved in the project were around 100 and each of them worked on 3 English terms not included in IATE. Their task was to find proper contexts and definitions from reliable sources both in English and in Italian. Students were initially assisted and coordinated during the course but concluded the task on their own, and the final work was not subject to review. Terms will be examined by Termcoord for a possible integration into the IATE database.
