Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for IATE: Packaging materials

Short presentation of the project

The aim of this work was to feed the IATE term base with English and Greek terms related to the domain of ‘Packaging Materials’. Based on the concept map of WIPO PEARL on packaging materials and equipment, almost 50 terms were collected, while over 100 terms were extracted from authentic corpora, according to their frequency and importance. For each term, Master Students had to provide a solid term definition and context in both English and Greek. A very important asset in the research process was the cooperation with experts from the flexible packaging manufacturing industry, providing students with information about the operation of the industry (machines, workflow, packaging production, etc.), and offering them access to original documentation resources (scientific books, catalogues, specialized dictionaries, etc.). Final results were also discussed with terminology experts from the Greek Department of the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Parliament in a wiki environment, provided by the e-learning platform of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
