Short presentation of the project

The aim of this project is to engage MA students attending the Postgraduate Program in Specialised Translation of the “Orientale” University of Naples in real-world terminology projects and give them the opportunity to get familiar with IATE’s terminological and terminographical procedures. The working languages are English and Italian. The project aims to develop a well-documented and reliable term base with the help of experts in the field of migration laws and social anthropology.

The project is carried out by MA students in Specialised Translation I, which devotes special attention to specialised translation, translation technology and terminology The course belongs to the Postgraduate Program in Specialised Translation of the “L’Orientale” University of Naples  which is the oldest school of Sinology and Oriental Studies in Europe and has a strong tradition of language, cultural and social studies, both ancient and modern, relating to Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Project Coordinator

Johanna Monti, Associate Professor at “L’Orientale” University of Naples

Johanna MontiJohanna Monti, is Associate Professor and teaches Translation Studies, Specialised Translation, Computational Linguistics for Translation, Machine and Computer Aided Translation at the “L’Orientale” University of Naples. She was director of the Language Center of the University of Sassari, where she taught from 2012 till 2016. She is regularly acting as a member of the scientific committees of various renowned international conferences on Natural Language Processing, and as external evaluator for the Italian Ministry for Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) and the Horizon 2020 programme.  She is the Coordinator of the teaching staff of the “iOS Foundation program” and member of the governing board of the I-Land research center, an independent, interdisciplinary centre for advanced study in linguistics, social studies and humanities. Her current research activities are in the field of Machine Translation, the impact of MT in the translation Process and the evaluation of the new translation technologies. She is member of the Italian Association of Computational linguistics and of the Editorial board of the Italian Journal of Computational Linguistics (IJCoL).

External experts

 Adele Del Guercio 

Adele Del Guercio is fixed-term researcher in International Law at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and she is in charge of courses of “European Union Law” (in the past in charge of the courses of “International Protection of Migrants”). Her publications concern asylum and migration law, the protection of unaccompanied minors, human rights law, LBGTI rights. She worked as a teacher in projects for the training of migrants, school teachers, civil servants
