Clara Machado – Assistant, IATE Helpdesk

Clara was born in Portugal and holds a degree in Languages, Literature and Culture from the Faculdade de Letras, University of Porto. She worked in the Analysis and Documentation Unit of the Translation Directorate of the Court of Justice. ECQA certified terminology manager.

Violina Stamtcheva-Andreeva – IATE Coordinator

Bulgarian, Master’s degree in German and English philology in Sofia and Berlin, PhD in translation studies in Vienna. 2007-2010 a translator in the Bulgarian unit. ECQA certified terminology manager.

Daniela Ramalho Da Silva – Rotating Terminologist

Born in 1983 in Alcobaça, Portugal. Studied modern languages and literatures – English, German and Dutch – and afterwards Translation Studies in those languages. After an internship at the European Central Bank’s Portuguese unit, she worked as a freelance translator, mainly for Portuguese agencies but also for the ECB as an external translator. In 2012, moved to Villach, in the south of Austria, where she continued to translate from home and later also taught Portuguese as a Heritage Language. She moved to Luxembourg in the end of 2017 to join the Portuguese Translation Unit at the Parliament. Besides Terminology and CAT tools, her passions are cinema and calligraphy.

Viola Pongracz

Born in Hungary. Studied English and linguistics and literature at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, then post-graduate studies in economics, with specialisation in EU studies. She came to Luxembourg in 2003 and worked as a translator in the Hungarian Translation Unit until January 2011. In TermCoord she is a terminologist and linguistic coordinator responsible for IATE, quality matters related to terminology, training and seminars, external contacts and trainees’ selections. Viola left TermCoord in 2019 due to mobility.

James Borg

James has been working for the EP since Malta, his country of origin, joined the EU in 2004. Before joining TermCoord he first worked in the MT translation unit and then in Planning. James left TermCoord in 2018 due to mobility.

Marie – Paule Laroche

Born in 1951 in Maaseik (Belgium). Worked in Belgium, at the beginning in a town administration, then as secretary of the Director General of the Medico-Social Institutes. Worked several years in the Cabinet of the Belgian Prime Minister. Works since 1989 at the European Parliament in Luxembourg. Started for a few months in the DG Translation (Dutch pool), then during 10 years in several committees. In 2000 in the central secretariat of the DG Presidency, and in March 2007 in the Cabinet of the Secretary General, Mr RØMER. Since March 2009 back in the DG Translation, in Terminology Coordination. Married, 4 children and 11 grandchildren. Marie-Paule retired in 2016.

Sonia Pérez

Born in 1958 in Lima (Peru). Studied Administration and Economics at the Catholic University of Louvainin, Belgium. She got Belgian citizenship and worked in the Research, Human resources, Training and Europe Aid sectors of the European Commission for 15 years. In June 2006 she came to Luxembourg and started working for the Parliament with the ITS Unit in the DG TRAD and later she worked in the financial team of External Translation Service. Married and has two children.

Katja Pfusch

Of Italian/German dual nationality, Katja graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures in Italy (1972). After two years spent as a teacher of German literature (Pescara University), as a translator (mostly for public institutions) and as an administrator (Regione Abruzzo), Katja started the “European adventure” as a translator in 1974 at the EP in Luxembourg, where she also experienced other DGs and services (Séance, Information, Committees, Personnel). Outside work, Katja also graduated in Political Sciences in 1995 with a thesis on the European Ombudsman. Since August 2008 she has been back in DGTRAD to take care of the Linguistic coordination in the TermCOORD team. Married twice with two daughters and two amazing granddaughters.

Antonio Almeida

Born in 1946 in Porto. 1963-70 University studies in Coimbra and Marburg, 1970-74 Lecturer of Portuguese at Ruhr University Bochum, 1974-79 Lecturer in Phonetics at Cologne University, Dr. Phil., 1979-80 Professor of Linguistics at Brasilia University, 1980-85 Project Manager of the German Linguistic Atlas in Marburg and at the Phonetics Institute of Cologne University, since 1986 EP Official, since 1987 active in terminology work.

Lara Karlović – Communication Team Coordinator CA

Born in Croatia, Lara obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics and Tourism. Over the time she developed an interest in marketing which led to her earning a Master’s degree in Marketing and Communications. Lara has experience working in digital marketing; mainly project management, social media marketing and SEO content writing and optimization. She enjoys traveling, writing and photography.
