One of the main aims of Terminology without Borders is to create a network among universities and experts in the terminology field all over the world. One of our latest collaborations showed how constructive the cooperation between two universities could be when working together.
In the past years, Terminology without Borders has been pulling together more than 20 partners in Europe, United States and Asia, and each year we renew partnerships with several universities.
On Tuesday, 15 March 2022, the coordinators of Terminology without Borders met online the universities currently participating in the project. On the one hand, it was an occasion for the involved universities to get to know all the Terminology without Borders team; on the other hand, it was a moment of fruitful exchange, talking about the contents and methodology of the project and creating synergies among universities.
During the discussion, there were two focal suggestions from our partners:
- A questionnaire to hand out to students at the end of the collaboration, so that they can give their feedback on their experience with Terminology without Borders; on yourterm.eu a whole new section will be dedicated to this;
- A collaborative platform where universities can constantly be in touch, exchanging ideas and expertise, and creating synergies that will enrich all of us.
We also had the pleasure to have with us the two developers of the FAIRterm application: Giorgio Di Nunzio and Federica Vezzani, professors at the University of Padua, Italy.
FAIRterm is one of the tools that we suggest to our partners to manage terminological data during their research: it is completely free and allows you to work with the 24 official European languages and some extra European ones.
Thanks to Giorgio and Federica, two of our partner universities, ISIT and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, were able to work together on the platform for developing a multilingual glossary on Natural Language Processing. This new collaborative version of FAIRterm is now available for all our partners.
This one-hour meeting was a moment of sharing and a real chance to create connections despite the distance.
