Environmental policy is crucial for the European Union (EU) to achieve a sustainable future. The EU’s focus on environmental policy and sustainable development depends on everyone understanding complex issues, such as climate change, biodiversity, and renewable energy. By using consistent environmental terminology, all Member States can work together smoothly and set ambitious goals to protect the environment. It also makes the EU more influential in global discussions on this matter. This is one of the top priorities of the EU. Think, for example, of the Green Deal, the Energy Infrastructure Regulation or the EU Solar Energy Strategy.

In the official EuroVoc classification, EU legislation in the field of ENVIRONMENT is divided into three main domains with 15 sub-domains:
