Last year in October, we informed you about the Juvenes Translatores Translation Contest. In the meantime, the contest has concluded and the winners have been found. On Thursday the 30th of January, the 28 winners were announced, one from each EU member state.
The 28 students participating in the annual Juvenes Translatores Translation Contest were 17-year-old secondary school students from all over Europe. They were tasked to translate a one-page text into their own language. The text was an email about a worried teacher dreading the start of the new school year who reached out to a fellow teacher about her concerns. The responding teacher brought up what she did with her class. She described her discussions in the class about shaping the future, Greta Thunberg and presentations about how young people can and do change the world. In her class, she heard presentations about Boyan Slat and Nadia Comaneci for instance.
After thorough evaluation of the submitted translations, the Juvenes Translatores selected the 28 winners. The winners will all travel to the EU institutions in Brussels in April where they will meet their fellow winners from the other EU member states and receive their award at the final award ceremony.
